Villagers protest killing of youth

Imphal, February 11 2009: Security forces Wednesday killed a suspected PULF militant at Yairipok Pechi village in Thoubal district and seized a US carbine load with five live rounds of ammunition, official report said.

Alleging that the youth was picked up from near Yairipok Ningthoumanai Pukhri Achouba Leikai by four persons in civil dress coming to a Maurti-800 brand car before shooting to dead, villagers stormed the Yairipok police station to register a strong protest against the act of the security forces tonight at around 7 pm.

Police said that the suspect was killed during an encounter between some suspected activists of the PULF and a combined team of Thoubal police commandos and troops of 34 Assam Rifles today at around 11.20 am near the foot hill of the Pechi village.

Yairipok police retrieved the dead body and deposited at RIMS morgue.

Later the identity of the slain man was established as one Md Majir khan (20) son of Md Thambalton of Yairipok Chagamtabi.

He served as security guard at a farm in Delhi and on leave for the last around one month.

The dead body was taken by the family after an agreement was brought about between the family and the circle MLA this evening.
