Two killed; one injured in separate incidents

Imphal, November 08 2009: Miscreants shot dead a youth and injured a non-Manipur even as troops of Assam Rifles gunned down a suspected UG cadre in separate incidents which occurred in the state during the last 24 hours.

Miscreants shot dead a youth later identified as Longjam Boy (26), son of Nilasingh of Salungpham, at present residing at Wabagai Keirak, last night at Sarit Konjil village under Waikhong police station of Thoubal district.

While retrieving the bullet-riddled dead body, police detected a piece of paper on which was written that the slain youth was an informer of the Army.

Police suspect, he was killed by cadres of an underground organisation.

Family said, the youth went out of home yesterday evening to show up at the house of his wife's parental home.

He was a handyman of a passenger bus plying along the Mayai Lambi road.

In another incident, a non-Manipuri man, a mobile vendor of goods, sustained bullet injury when he was shot at by two unknown persons who came on a two-wheeler at Lamlai in Imphal east district at about 2 pm today.

He was hit by three bullets in his left hip, left shoulder and abdomen.

The shooting of the non-local at the outskirt of Imphal took place even as Imphal west district Senior SP had asked them not to move out beyond the Imphal Municipality area after the recent killings of two non-locals.

The injured non-Manipur who was later identified as Shankar Shahu (23), son of Hiralal Shahu of Bihar's Rohtas district, currently residing at a rented house at Telipati, Imphal.

He was shot at by one of two gunmen with small arms as soon as he stepped down from a passenger bus near a local shop for delivering spices.

He has been admitted at Raj Poly Clinic, North AOC where he was referred from the JN Hospital, Porompat.

Meanwhile, an insurgent was gunned down by troops of 29 Assam Rifles guarding the international border with Myanmar at Tuiyanglok village near the border pillar no.86 last night at about 7.30 pm, according to a police report received here.

The troops recovered a lathod gun of US make along with one live round.

A hand grenade which was recovered from his possession had been destroyed by the troops.

The dead body has been handed over to Tengnoupal police station.

Now the body has been brought to RIMS morgue for official identification.

On the other hand, two of the seven dead bodies gunned down by Assam Rifles at Andro Sanapat on October 31 night, which remained unidentified at the RIMS morgue, have been disposed off by the Imphal Municipality Council with necessary official procedure today.
