Imphal, November 04 2009: In yet another landmark achievement, joint security forces under 57 Mountain Division claimed to have eliminated one insurgent and apprehended two underground cadres and busted three hideouts of the militants today in Loktak Lake area in an operation codenamed 'Operation Thunderbolt' .

A statement issued by the PIB (Defence Wing) today claimed that the troops of 57 Mountain Division, 9 Sector Assam Rifles, Bishenpur Police Commandos and Imphal West Police Commandos participated in the operation.

Two AK 47 rifles, one M-16 with, two lathode launchers, two pistols, and a huge quantity of arms, explosives and warlike stores were recovered in the operation, the PIB (Defence Wing) statement maintained.

Without mentioning which particular militant outfits were killed and apprehended, the PIB (DW) release stated that the joint forces under 57 Mountain Division launched a lightning strike on three specific hideouts which resulted in the elimination and apprehension of three cadres, busting of three hideouts and recovery of a cache of arms and ammunitions.

The information was provided by the locals who were fed up of UG activities, the statement added.

"This successful operation highlighted the synergy between the Security Forces and Police in Manipur and has broken the myth of impregnability of Loktak Lake.
