Cops crack case, four arrested

Imphal, April 03 2009: Imphal East Police have arrested four persons who were involved in the incident of firing attack at the Uripok Achom Leikai residence of IMC Chairperson Meinam Ongbi Ranisana on March 24 night which left one of her brothers-in-law identified as Meinam Tombi injured.

The arrested four persons have been identified as Khaidem Deepak Singh (23) s/o late Kh Kumar of Liwa Road Oinam Leikai, Laitonjam Inaocha Singh (25) s/o late Lokendro of Liwa Road Naorem Leikai, Kshetrimayum Thoibi (30) d/o Ksh Mangi of Kakwa Naorem Leikai and Ksh Surbala d/o Ksh Jiten Singh of Kakwa Naorem Leikai.

Talking to mediapersons in connection with the arrest at the Imphal East Police Headquarters here this afternoon, SDPO L Birbabu informed that following the interrogation of an arrested activist of the United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) identified as Pukrambam Kripa (30) s/o late P Babu Singh of Liwa Road Oinam Leikai, who disclosed that some activists of the outfit including female cadres are moving around in a Van, personnel of the Imphal East Police have been laying in wait for the last couple of days.

At around 9.30 am today, four persons later identified as Khaidem Deepak, Laitonjam Inaoba, Ksh Thoibi and Ksh Surbala were seen moving about in a Van suspiciously.

After interrogation, it was confirmed that all four of them are UPPK activists and were involved in the incident of firing attack which left Meinam Tombi injured.

The SDPO further aid that of late it has been seen that UGs groups started using drug addicts and young widows in carrying out their activities like extortion and transportation of arms and ammunition.

However, talking to mediapersons, Kshetrimayum Thoibi and Kshetrimayum Surbala clarified that they have simply accompanied the other two accused on the request of coming along with them to RIMS Hospital as it was risky for men alone to go out during night time in this prevailing situation.
