Imphal, February 03 2010: The body of a newly born baby was found abandoned underneath an electric pole along the road in between Lamphel Super Market and RIMS Road in Imphal West district.

Wrapped in polythene of red and green colour, the body was detected at around 8.30 am today.

According to eyewitnesses, it has been lying there for the last couple of days.

Some of the children detected it when dogs started barking in an attempt to take away the bundle and the stench spread around.

As the lower portion of the body from waist down was missing, it could not identified whether the baby was a boy or a girl.
