Imphal, February 03 2009: A suspected cadre of the proscribed KCP (MC) Lamyanba Khuman group was killed in an encounter with Imphal East District Police Commandos at Khurai Salan Leirak under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district at around 7 pm today.

According to police, the Commandos were on patrol duty when three unidentified armed persons opened fire at them.

In the retaliatory firing one of the armed persons was killed while the rest escaped.

One 9 mm pistol loaded with four live rounds and a demand letter of the KCP (MC) signed by its commander-in-chief Lamyanba Khuman and district commander have been recovered from the possession of the slain UG, police said, adding that the demand letter of Rs 20 lakhs is addressed to one Santosh Mehta of Thangal Bazar.

The police further said that on the basis of the driving license of cycle rickshaw issued by IMC that has also been recovered from the possession of the slain UG, he is likely to be one Chanam Ibomcha (33) s/o Biren of Ishok Mamang Leikai but staying at Sagolband Thangjam Leirak.

To ascertain the identity, the body has been picked up and kept at RIMS morgue.
