Imphal, December 31 2008: In protest against the killing of S Chaoba alias Sachunta of Sega Road Khwairakpam Leikai and M Gurung alias Zingo of Sagolband Maisnam Nongthombam Leikai, a large number of womenfolk today blocked the Tiddim Road at Hodam Leirak area and burnt the effigies of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and Commandos leading to traffic jam along the route for sometime today.

Though the police claimed that the two persons have been killed by a combined force of Imphal West Police Commandos and personnel of 23 Assam Rifles in a shoot out at Leimakhong Mapan under Lamlai Police Station on December 28, the family members refuted the police claim asserting that the victims were innocent.

In support of the demand of the JAC formed in connection with the killing for giving befitting punishment against the security personnel involved in the killing, the agitating womenfolk came out to block the road starting from 12 noon to 3 pm leading to disruption of vehicular traffic.

The route was, however, cleared after the arrival of the police.

But the agitation of the womenfolk continued in the form of sit-in-protest by blocking half of the road.

Afterward, they also burnt the effigies of Chief Minister and the Police Commandos in condemnation of the killing On the other hand, as the Government has not given any positive response to its demand, the JAC has refused to take back the bodies of Chaoba and Gurung which are lying in the mortuary of RIMS Hospital.
