Imphal, December 21 2008: Troops of 29 Assam Rifles gunned down two suspected militants in an encounter at Narum hill under Tengnoupal police station in Chandel district bordering Myanmar around 1 pm today while other troops posted in the border area apprehended two cadres of UNLF and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunitions from them.

Reports reaching here said though the identity of the two deceased suspected militants who were killed in the alleged encounter are yet to be established.

A huge cache of arms and ammunition were reportedly recovered from the encounter site which include one lethode, two lethode bombs, four chinese grenades, two Improvised Explosive Device and 22 empty cases of ammunition etc.

"Assam Rifles troops under 26 sector also seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition from border areas of Bongyang and New Chajol yesterday evening" Colonel L M Pant, PRO Assam Rifles said.

The Assam Rifles troops deployed at Bongyang also rounded up two cadres of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) along with a vehicle, he added.

This incident of detecting the huge arms and ammunitions along with the arrest of the cadres took place yesterday evening, the officer informed.

The arms and ammunitions recovered from them include one RPG launcher, 11 rockets, 11 hand grenades, 2035 ammunitions of small arms and 5.56 ammunitons numbering around 1960, he added.

While those ammunitions recovered by the troops of 8 Assam Rifles from a place near New Changjol are�one M-16 rifle with 32 rounds, one AK-LMG with 55 rounds, one 9 mm pistol, two chinese hand grenades and one radio set.

The seized arms and ammunition include-1 RPG launcher, 11 rockets, 13 hand grenades, one M-16 rifle with 32 rounds, one AK-LMG with 55 rounds, one 9 mm pistol, one radio set, 38 lethode bombs and many ammunitions.
