Imphal, April 18 2009: Unidentified gunmen shot at a labourer at Yourabung under Lamlai Police Station of Imphal East District at around 7.30 pm yesterday.

According to information received by the press, 45-year old Oinam Amuthoi s/o late Sanajaoba of Nambol Leimapokpam Awang Leikai is one of the labourers being engaged in construction of drain at Yourabung and he was shot at by the unidentified gunmen while he was preparing meal at their shed last night.

He sustained bullet injuries near his left armpit and is being treated at the ICU of Shija Hospital where is condition is stated to be serious.

In all 12 of them, all from Nambol Leimapokpam are taking up the construction work.

Before opening fire, the unidentified gunmen reportedly asked them who is their contractor to which Amuthoi replied it is one Bijoy.

The gunmen also asked who are the labourers and when they replied all of them are the labourers, the gunmen opened fire.

Injured Amuthoi was brought to the hospital by his co-workers.

Condemning the incident, family members of Amuthoi demanded an explanation in this regard from all concerned.
