Imphal, January 13 2009: Identity of the man found shot dead atop Langol hills yesterday afternoon has been established as one Laishram Kunjo alias Yangba (37) s/o late Chingthang of Lamsang Mayai Leikai.

He left home about 3/4 months back.

Before that, he used to pull rickshaws.

He had one son and two daughters, said family members.

On the other hand, family members maintained that the individual shot dead by a combined force of Imphal West commandos and troops of 39 Assam Rifles at Laingam village under Lamsang police station during a reported encounter last night was an innocent civilian.

The slain individual identified as Laishram Dipson of Khuyathong Polem Leikai went out last morning in the car belonging to his brother-in-law for admission of his child.

He was not related to any UG group, the family members contended.
