Imphal, June 12 2009: Decrying repeated bomb attacks at the Achanbigei Mayai Leikai residence of Imphal East Zilla Parishad Adhyaksha Pungshumbam Bimola, a protest demonstration was staged near the residential gate of the Adhyaksha today.

Placards and festoons which read as "Armed attacks against Adhyaksha P Bimola and intimidating people is an act of cowardice", "We condemn bomb attacks at the residence of Adhyaksha P Bimola", "Do armed groups perceive human values lower than money ?" etc were put up by the protesters.

Disclosing that there has been intense pressure from an armed group demanding certain percentage from the amount to be released under State Finance Commission, P Bimola conjectured that the bomb attacks might be in pursuit of the same demand.

"As the amount to be released from the State Finance Commission would be distributed directly to the beneficiaries, I've no capacity to deduct any percentage", the Adhyaksha said while appealing to all concerned to stop such intimidating acts.

One Meira Paibi who took part in the protest demonstration also called for a halt to such intimidating acts.

Further attacks may constrain the local people to bar entry of outsiders in Achanbigei area, she cautioned.
