Imphal, January 31 2009: Troops of 29 AR gunned down two UG cadres at the general area of Laibi yesterday.

A press release issued by PRO IGAR(S) said the troops launched operation in the area acting on a specific information regarding the movements of armed cadres.

At around 9:15 pm, the release said, the SFs observed two persons moving suspiciously in the area.

While asking them to stop, the persons opened fire towards security forces and also lobbed a hand grenade.

The troops retaliated immediately and killed the duo in the ensuing gunfight.

One 9mm pistol loaded with two rounds of ammunition, one 7.65mm pistol (Italian made) with magazine loaded with four rounds, three FCC of 7.65mm, four Chinese hand grenades, two personal diaries and some Indian currencies were recovered from the slain UGs.

The corpses alongwith the recovered items were handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station, the release added.
