Memorandum submitted to CM on bus burning

Imphal, October 27 2008: In connection with the burning down of a tourist bus by the KLO/KLA on October 23 at Lahorijan, Assam in which two passengers were killed, the All Manipur Inter-State Bus Association submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister today.

Even as the transporters' body in association with representatives of several civil organisations submitted the memorandum today, they were given appointment for a meeting with the Chief Minister tomorrow at 10 am, informed a source.

The main points of the memorandum include institution of an enquiry into the inhuman criminal act, provision of ex-gratia and suitable jobs to the families of the deceased and adequate compensation to the injured victims and owner of the bus.

The All Manipur Inter-State Bus Association also submitted copies of the two memoranda it submitted to Chief Minister O Ibobi on October 23 as a reminder today.

The main demands of the two memoranda submitted earlier included establishment highway protection force, development of National highways, provision of land for bus parking and ticket counters at Guwahati, Shillong and Dimapur and also to build a rest house at Khatkhati for transporters and passengers.

They also urged upon the Chief Minister to deploy security forces at certain points along National Highways to reduce collection of illegal taxes.
