Imphal, August 26 2009: Stating a mass protest demonstration against the killing of 18-year old Yumnam Kumarjit s/o Yumnam Nipamacha of Irom Meijrao at the ground of Social and Youth Welfare Organisation, Irom Meijrao today the JAC formed in connection with the killing has asserted it was yet another instance of fake encounter.

Contradicting the report claiming that Kumarjit was killed during a shoot out lasting five minutes with personnel of Gurkha Rifles at Moirangkhongpat located in between Toubul Mamang and Ngaikhong in Bishnupur district in early morning of August 24, the JAC contended that Kumarjit was innocent person who could never have any sort of connection with any UG groups.

Apart from being a epileptic patient, Kumarjit was a physically weak person, the JAC members said, while informing that the inspection of the alleged encounter site led to recovery of just one fired cartridge of AK-47 and another empty case and fired cartridge of AK-47 bears the number 711,82 .

The bereaved family members informed that Kumarjit had been staying with one of his maternal aunties in Chandel to help in construction of a house since March this year and he left the place of his maternal aunty for Irom Meijrao on August 12.However, as he did not come to his Irom Meijrao house, the family members have been searching for him and they come to know about his death from the newspaper report.

Meanwhile, the JAC has demanded the Government to find out the truth behind the killing and punish the involved security personnel.

The JAC has made it clear that the body of Kumarjit would not be cremated until the Government accepted these demands.
