Kohima, October 25 2008: Numerous reconciliation meetings and football matches among the Naga underground factions have not brought the desired impact as there is no respite in factional clashes between the NSCN factions.

This morning, rival factions of NSCN clashed at Phaipijang, near Nagarjan under Dimapur district killing an NSCN-K cadre in the spot at around 5.45 pm.

The deceased has been identified as ss pvt Hopeto of NSCN-K.Police later recovered seven empty cases of AK-47 from the spot.

It is pertinent to note that under the aegis of Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR), leaders of the Naga underground outfits met in Dimapur on Tuesday and stressed for urgency of Naga reconciliation and affirmed their sincere commitment in contributing towards the realization of Naga reconciliation.

The Tuesday meeting was the 4th such event.

A football match was also held both in Thailand and Nagaland in the last two months involving all the Naga underground factions' representatives and Naga civil organisation leaders as a measure to reconcile among the militant warring groups.

A theme, "A Covenant of Common Hope" was adopted by the Naga Peace Summit-III at Chiang Mai, Thailand in August this year.

The Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) has been expressing deep concern over the continuation of violent incidents and usage of provocative statements among the Naga underground groups through the media and pointed out that such actions will only undermine the commitment and sincerity which was mutually expressed and agreed upon by the Naga political groups for Naga reconciliation.

To strengthen the Naga reconciliation process and to publicly demonstrate their sincerity and resolve to build a common understanding among Nagas, the FNR has also been urging the Naga underground groups to take practical step-by-step measures in ensuring that no act of violence or provocation is committed till the next Naga reconciliation meeting.

But inspite of the meetings among the Naga underground factions and also numerous appeals from the Naga civil societies and church bodies to shun violence, the factional clashes go on unabated.
