Islamuddin's murder: NSA detainee re-arrested, two others pulled up

Imphal, June 25 2009: Three individuals including a student activist already detained under NSA has been arrested/re-arrested in connection with the murder of Manipur University Proctor Prof Islamuddin.

According to information received by press, Thoudam Shyam (33) s/o Megha of Thoubal Leishangthem has been re-arrested with due permission from court and relevant authority by police yesterday.

Shyam was among the five students booked under NSA on June 2 .

He as been remanded to police custody.

On the disclosure of Shyam, police have already pulled up one Naorem Indrakumar Meetei (30) s/o Damuba of Nambol Naorem.

Indrakumar, a Chowkidar in a club at MU was produced before court yesterday.

He has also been remanded to judicial custody.

Meanwhile, one Kongkham Kirankumar (26) of Haobam Marak has been booked under NSA yesterday.

Prof Islamuddin was shot dead inside MU campus in broad day light on May 25.The proscribed KYKL has claimed its hand in eliminating the Professor.

Yet, in connection with the murder five student activists allegedly involved in the killing and IRB Rifleman Kangjam Dimajit of Haobam Marak who surrendered on his own were booked under NSA.

Further, another man pulled up in connection with the murder of contractor Krishnadas was produced before court yesterday and has been remanded to police custody.

The accused has been identified as Laikhuram Priyobarta alias Lakpa alias Nanao (25) s/o Samungou of Kongpal Khaidem Leikai.

Krishnadas was abducted from Thangmeiband on June 10 and he was found murdered on June 12 even as Rs 25 lakhs were given to secure his release.

In both the cases of these killings, JACs have been staging protest demonstrations urging the State Government to book the culprits and punish them accordingly to law.

Incidentally, the shrada ceremony of Krishnadas fell today and subsequently the protest sitting staged daily has been suspended.
