IED blast averted at Kanglatongbi

Imphal, October 24 2008: Troops of Red Shield Division today averted a major tragedy by timely detecting an IED and apprehension of one KCP (MC) cadre from near the Kanglatongbi bridge along the National Highway 39 in the wee hours today.

According to a statement issued by PIB Defence Wing, the arrested KCP (MC) cadre identified as Priyojit Singh alias Inaocha (20) s/o Prajuto Singh of Wangkhei Palace Compound was in possession of explosive material, detonator and all items necessary for preparation of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

The arrest took place at around 2.45 am of October 24 when a joint patrol party consisting of troops of 36 Assam Rifles and Sekmai Police spotted four persons moving under suspicious circumstances near the Kanglatongbi bridge.

On being challenged, the individuals started fleeing into the nearby village.

The troops chased them and managed to capture one of them.

During preliminary interrogation, Priyojit accepted involvement in the recent IED blast which took place in Imphal.

The individual has been handed over to the police.
