Dimapur, September 24 2009: Reacting to the news item carried in some local papers of Manipur yesterday wherein two members of KCP (MC) were said to have been abducted by unidentified gunmen and later shot death at Happyland village in Ukhrul district, the NSCN-IM today said that it has been necessitated to clarify that cadres of the Naga outfit have nothing to do with the incident.

The NSCN-IM, however, cautioned the Editor of Tangkhul vernacular daily The Aja to carry unauthentic news.

"In fact, it was an unpleasant surprise for us when The Aja paper allegedly mentioned the name of NSCN in connection with the killing which is completely unfounded.

The Editor of the said paper is advised to be more careful next time when giving names and figures and not to publish at all, biased and unverified version of a story unless proven or claimed responsibility by the perpetrators.

These are the basic things about ethical standard of journalism," cautioned the statement.

On the other hand, the NSCN-IM said that it strongly condemned the arson attack on the house of Happyland village chief, in what can be concluded as retaliation from KCP (MC).

"On the top of that, two innocent villagers namely Lovejoy, a church clerk by profession and Venture, a student were brutally murdered.

It is madness pure and simple to prey on the helpless civilians and this act of barbarism cannot be overlooked.

For, the lives of innocent denizens should not be made the scapegoat.

This ugly incident has been viewed seriously," the NSCN-IM said.
