Two UGs killed, 2 nabbed

Tamenglong, February 21, 2010: Two underground activists suspected to be of KYKL were killed by a combined force of Thoubal police commandos and troops of Assam Rifles in an alleged encounter last night, at about 11 pm, at Kherching area, 6 km south east of Kakching police station in Thoubal district, police said today.

Two activists of different underground groups were also nabbed by the police commandos and Assam Rifles in other counter insurgency operations during the last 24 hours.

From the two unknown slain persons suspected to be activists of an underground group, the combined force recovered one AK-56 rifle along with a magazine loaded with 27 live rounds, two 9 mm pistols loaded with three live rounds, two hand grenades (Chinese made and one local made), police said.

A combined team of Thoubal police commandos and troops of 42 Assam Rifles killed the two militants in a gunfight last night when the combined team entered to the area to launch counter insurgency operations there base on specific information on the presence of some armed militants there, a police source here said.

The dead bodies were retrieved from the spot and sent to RIMS morgue for official procedures.

At the left hand and chest of one of the slain persons, it was written a Sadana in English and Meetei Mayek.

Police suspected them to be KYKL activists, the source added.

In another counter insurgency operation launched by the Imphal west district police commandos and troops of 33 Assam Rifles apprehended an activist of KCP (MC)-Puranthaba identified as Longjam Premjit alias Nanao son of late L Pishak of Thoubal Khunou Awang Leikai from near Hudco Gate, Khuman Lampak today, at about 1.30 pm, said a statement of the Senior SP, Imphal west, L Kailun.

A mobile hand set with Airtel SIM card was seized from his possession, the statement added.

Another activist of the KCP (MC) identified as Heikrujam Dayamo (33) son of H Ibopishak of Sabukhok village under Lamlai police station was also reportedly apprehended from his home last night by troops of 23 Assam Rifles.

He was rounded up during a search operation in the village.

Meanwhile, identities of the rest two suspected PREPAK cadres out of the five remained unidentified were established today.

With this, identities of all the five persons slain in the hand of the troops of 12 Assam Rifles at Taretlok under Kasom Khullen police station have been established.

The two were identified as Warepam Subata @ Nanao (19) son of Y Ibotombi of Lamboikhongnangmakhong and Wangkhem Sunil @ Lenin (35) son of late Bijin of Waithou presently residing at Lilong Chajing at the house of his mother�s parental house.

Subata had left home around five month back.

Family was informed of him joining PREPAK later, said the family members while Sunil left home on Diwali day of 2008.After postmortems were conducted on the bodies, the dead bodies of Sabata and Sunil have been handed over to their respective families today.
