Imphal, January 21 2009: Under the banner of the JAC formed in connection with the killing of one Karung Thoiba (44) s/o K Sanajaoba of Mahao Tera village in Chandel district road blockade was enforced today at Wabagai Lamkhai section of the Burma-Sugnu road.

Karung Thoiba was slain by a commando team on January 19 at Wabagai Leirak Achouba which the JAC and family members/relatives of the deceased had been contended that Thoiba was apprehended from home only to be found shot dead.

During the protest demonstration wherein placards were put on display and slogans raised in condemnation of the alleged gunning down of innocent persons by police commandos, demanded non-deployment of commandos in between Waikhong and Sugnu, and punishment of the guilty personnel people from Umathel, Wangoo Lamkhai, Pangaltabi, Tonsen, Mahao Tera, Nungkang and Leinganching areas participated.

While vehicular traffic remained disrupted along the route as the protest demonstration commenced from about 5.30 am police commandos arrived later in the day and dispersed the gathering to allow some passenger carriers move toward Sugnu.

Taking grim note of the police action, JAC members affirmed the agitation would be sustained until the matter is resolved amicably and satisfactorily.
