Imphal, July 20 2009: Decrying the threat of unidentified armed persons who opened fire inside RIMS campus in the evening of July 17, doctors, nurses and other staff of the medical institute today staged a Wakat Meepham.

The firing took place along the footpath leading to the southern gate of the institute and located in between the Blood Bank and the Police Picket.

The incident had caused fear and panic among the patients and others in the hospital.Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the protest demonstration, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Dr Y Mohen, demanded to know the motive behind the attack, as well as identity of the group or individuals responsible for it.

It may be recalled here that on January 8, 1995, nine civilians including a student were mowed down in indiscriminate firing by CRPF following an attack launched by unidentified armed persons.
