Manipur a conflict zone : Red Cross official

Imphal, October 19 2009: International Red Cross Society top official Paul Keen from the United Kingdom is in Imphal today overseeing the state of affairs of the Manipur unit of the Society.

Talking to reporters this afternoon, Paul Keen termed Manipur as one of the conflict zones.

The visiting official said that he has been touring in the conflict zones including Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.

Paul Keen said that he had joined the Red Cross Society in 1994 and since then he has been working hard to reduce the suffering of the people living in these conflict zones.

The Red Cross Society official then stated there are seven fundamental principles of the Society such as to work for humanity, to be impartial, to maintain neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality.

Meanwhile, Manipur chapter Red Cross Society secretary Dr Lala said that doctors and chemist shops shoud stop using the symbol of the Red Cross Society in their vehicles or clinics or in the pharmacies.
