Imphal, January 19 2009: A suspected activist of the proscribed KYKL has been shot dead by a combined team of Thoubal district Police Commandos and personnel of 21 Assam Rifles during a reported encounter which took place at Wabagai Leirak Achouba under Kakching Police Station of Thoubal district at around 6.45 am today.

According to police report, one 9 mm pistol and a magazine loaded with two live rounds of ammunition have been recovered from the possession of the slain activist whose identity is yet to be ascertained.

On the other hand, Thoubal Police Commandos have reportedly apprehended another KYKL activist during frisking and checking operation at Wabagai area at around 6.30 am today.

Identifying the arrested UG as one Elangbam Sunil Singh (24) s/o Elangbam Ibomcha Singh of Hiyanglam Mayai Leikai, SP of Thoubal district Clay Khongsai in a statement informed that on questioning Sunil disclosed that he was involved in the killing of non-Manipuris in between Hayel and Hangul village under Mayang Imphal Police Station in the month of March 2008 .
