Imphal, April 18 2009: US-based human rights group Land is Life has appealed to the Government of India to stop the violence against indigenous people at Loktak lake in Manipur and provide immediate humanitarian assistance for the refugees created by the ongoing Operation Summer Storm of the Indian Army.

According to director of Land is Life Brian Keane, the indigenous people of North East India deserves better life and called on the security forces to immediately stop the official violence and human rights violation of the indigenous women, men and children in Manipur.

The message was conveyed through the Threatened Indigenous People's Society (TIPS) .

"We call on the Government of India to abide by International human rights laws and the UN Declaration on th Rights of Indigenous Peoples to protect the health, safety and dignity of he peaceful Meetei people at Loktak lane and throughout Manipur', Keane said.

It may be noted here that Land is Life is an indigenous-led grassroots organisations that is active in the International struggle to promote and protect the rights of indigenous peoples.
