Slain UG �suspects� identified

Imphal, February 17, 2010: Even as the identity of three UG suspects reportedly killed in separate incidents of encounter by the security forces were established today, Assam Rifles handed over a youth, who had been allegedly picked up from home by some unidentified armed persons, to the police claiming him to be cadre of the proscribed PREPAK.

The UG suspect who was killed by a combined force of Thoubal district Police Commandos and personnel of 21 Assam Rifles during an encounter near Keirak Buffalo Farm under Kakching Police Station in Thoubal district has been identified as one Chongtham Ojit alias Naoba (26) s/o Birkumar of Waikhong Awang Leikai.

According to his family members, after leaving KYKL as well as PREPAK where he joined one after another, Ojit was serving as a follower in the AR post at Lilong.

The body has been handed over to his family members after post-mortem examination at Lilong PHC today.

On the other hand, the body of Salam Yenning alias Amujao s/o Ibomcha of Keibul Lamjao Mayai Leikai, who was a cadre of MPA, the armed wing of the proscribed UNLF and killed in an encounter with 29 Assam Rifles near Chelep village under Tengnoupal Police Station in Chandel district on February 16 morning has also been claimed by the family members.

The post-mortem of the body was conducted at RIMS today.

UNLF had claimed that Assam Rifles killed Amujao after being arrested on his way to Imphal where he was coming to treat for some health problem.

The identity of the remaining UNLF cadre, out of three of them killed by personnel of 12 Assam Rifles during another reported encounter at Nambasi under Kasom Khullen Police Station in Ukhrul district in the morning of February 11 has also been established as Salam Premjit (18) s/o Ibocha of Serou Co-operative Hingkhol.

According to family members, Premjit left home around one and half years back.

The body has been handed over to family members after post-mortem examination at RIMS today.

The other two slain UNLF cadres were identified yesterday as Moirangthem Dinesh of Tera Loukrakpam Leirak and Moirangthem Nanao of Waikhong Laimanai.

Meanwhile, personnel of 42 Assam Rifles reportedly handed over Soibam Manaobi (21) of Hiyanglam Awang Leikai, who had been picked up from his house at gun-point on the night of February 13 by some unidentified armed persons who coming in a white Maruti, to Kakching Police Station claiming him to a member of the prescribed PREPAK.

In protest over the abduction of Manaobi, a JAC had been formed and Mayai Lambi blocked to traffic on February 15.In continued protest, the public of Hiyanglam area were planning to close the road indefinitely with effect from 6 am today.
