Imphal, December 15 2009: One non-local confectionery hawker has been shot dead by un-identified persons at Haotal, along Imphal-Saikul road this morning.

Confectionery hawker Deepak Kumar Sahu (28) s/o Ramnath was shot by two unidentified persons who came on a scooter at Haotal under Heingang police station in Imphal East district at about 11.10 am today, said a police source.

He was immediately rushed to JN Hospital but succumbed on the way.

He sustained fatal bullet injuries on the right arm, back and abdomen.

A native of Kherni Charali village in Karbi Anglong district of Assam, Deepak Kumar Sahu had been staying at Telipati since many years back.

He is survived by his wife and nine month old son.

After registering a case, Heingang police have launched an investigation into the killing.
