Villagers demand justice on Selung murder case

Pune, February 14, 2010: Villagers of Ukhongshang of Thoubal district continued to press the government to book culprits behind the murder of a gospel music album vendor found murdered at Pudunamei in Senapati district on February 11 last.

The dead body of Thangjam Selung, a resident of Ukhongsang village of Thoubal district, a mobile gospel music seller was retrieved from a place at Pudunamei village under Mao police station of Senapati district in the morning of February 11 last with many bruise marks of beaten up with heavy weapons before killing.

The dead body is still lying at RIMS morgue as family and a local joint action committee formed in connection with the murder of Selung refused to receive the dead body pressing the state government to book the culprits among others demanded by them from the government.

The JAC had also served ultimatum to the government to fulfill their demands which also include providing education support for the three children of deceased along with a suitable government to his wife and adequate compensation to the family within three days period counting from tomorrow.

They also attempted to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister, O Ibobi yesterday afternoon but police prevented from doing so which made anguish to the villagers.

Not losing hope of lodging complaint with the Chief Minister, around 100 womenfolk of the village again turned up to the Chief Minister Bungalow today but police stopped them before reaching the bungalow area.

Chief Minister O Ibobi had left Imphal for New Delhi today morning for his official business.

However, with an agreement reached with government authority in the talk held today, the JAC agreed to receive the dead body of Selnung, report said today.
