Imphal, June 09 2009: Protest demonstration launched on the demand for release of student activists arrested in connection with the killing of Prof Islamuddin persists.

The protesters used placards and festoons emblazoned with the words "DESAM's quality education campaign is not a rebellion against the Government", "Release arrested students immediately", "Don't plot to turn DESAM into a UG group", "DESAM is not a criminal" "Don't force students to join UG groups" etc.

Meira Paibis staged protest demanding release of arrested student activists at New Keithelmanbi, Moidangpok Mamang Leikai, Khumbong Bazar, Patsoi, Sana Keithel, Thambalkhong Top Naoriya Sabal Leikai, Kongba Kshetri Leikai, Chingnungkhong, Waiton Puthiba Bazar, Sawombung Bazar and Kyamgei.

At some places, effigies of Chief Minister O Ibobi were burnt.

Students of CC Higher Secondary School staged a sit-in-protest on the same demand in their school entrance.

Meanwhile, a joint press release issued by the Women Association for Civic Action Kangleipak, Ching-Tam Meira Paibi Lup, Khwai Lamphel Women United Development Organisation and Panthoibi Meira Paibi Lup alleged that detention of student activist under NSA only exposed faulty policy of the Government.

They also demanded immediate release of the arrested student activists.
