Imphal, April 05 2009: In a late night shoot-out at Yangoipat area in Bishnupur district on April 4 one suspected underground member had been shot dead by a combined security team.

According to police sources, the encounter ensued at around 11 pm yesterday when a joint team of Bishnupur district police commandos and personnel of 4/8 Gorkha Rifles moved in to Yangoipat area near Keinou based on specific information regarding presence of some UGs there.

The combined team was reportedly trailing some unidentified persons who fired some rounds at the keinou Thongkha residence of Zilla Parishad (Keinou Thongkha) Member Tejo Singh consequently resulting in the confrontation at near Yangoipat After the shoot-out that reportedly lasted for about an hour and slaying of one of the UG suspects the security force team recovered one AK 56 rifle with a magazine and six rounds from the possession of deceased whose body is been kept at RIMS morgue for identification.
