Imphal, June 03 2009: The student body further said that though the statement of the KYKL that they would cleanse MU of all its ills step by step may have been good news to the people, its very first step has left the public disillusioned.

To contention of the KYKL that the clique within MU is all powerful and that they have a decisive say in everything right from recruitment to promotion and other aspects, MUSU asked KYKL to clearly spell out what the power and influence supposedly wielded by the clique are.

Or else it should be made clear whether the clique has the power to appoint people of its choice, which is otherwise effected under the supervision of the VC.

The student body further asked the outfit to clearly spell out whether it is the VC who decides on the promotion of anyone on the basis of merit, seniority and other parameters or whether it is done at the behest of others, who over ride the VC.

In case if everyone in positions of authority are in the clique, then why has the KYKL spared the VC, countered MUSU.

Asserting that the role of the Dean of students' welfare in the election of MUSU is minimal, the student body said that just prior to the formation of the Election Committee, the Dean may have certain role, as laid down by conventions, but once the Committee is formed, it the Committee which is the sole authority and election process is conducted under the supervision of the chairman of the election committee.

No one can interfere in the functioning of the election committee, said MUSU and added that Prof Islamuddin may not have interfered in the election process.

He may have also resigned as the Dean because of this.

Linking Prof Islamuddin to the election of MUSU is hard to accept, said the student body and added that KYKL appeared to have laid more emphasis on conventions.

However conventions are effective only when there are no contestations, said MUSU.
