Thoubal bandh against killing

Imphal, January 13 2009: A 48 hour general strike has been called in Thoubal district from 6 am tomorrow against the Angangching killing of January 11.The bandh has been called on the contention that the individual shot dead by a combined force of Thoubal police commandos and troops of 21 AR Angangching under Kakching police station on January 11 was innocent.

The deceased individual identified as Moirangthem Tomba (30) s/o late Tolchou of Langathel Lai Kom was a timber dealer, local people contended.

The 48 hours general strike is called by the Joint Action Committee constituted against the killing of Tomba.

Tomba was waiting for a bus in the morning of January 11 at Kakching Khunou with Rs 32,000 to purchase timber when he was picked up by some persons clad in civilian clothes, suspected to be personnel of the combined force involved in the killing.

The suspected combined force personnel reportedly came in a Maruti van without registration number.

The JAC further alleged that the reported encounter at Tezpur Angangching in the same morning was a fake one.
