Talks fail, stir to be intensified

Imphal, November 10 2008: A meeting held today between representatives of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against the Brutal Killing of Md Azad Khan, Member Ward No 7/2 Hayel Hangoon Gram Panchayat with Chief Minister in-charge Th Debendra has failed to arrive at any understanding.

According to a press release issued by the JAC, he meeting was also attended by MLA of Wabagai Assembly Constituency Usham Deben.

Md Azad Khan was picked up by troops of 32 AR from Phundrei before he was shot dead near Irilbung Forest Gate under Irilbung police station on November 8, alleged the JAC.

Informing that it would have another meeting with Chief Minister in-charge Th Debendra tomorrow at 10 am, the JAC has warned that various forms of agitation will be launched from tomorrow in case the scheduled with the Government fails to come to an agreement tomorrow.

It further sought cooperation and support from all civil societies, clubs, Meira Paibis and the general public in its various protest movements.

Meanwhile, several local clubs of Santhel have condemned the killing of GP Member Md Azad Khan by Assam Rifles troops.

The local clubs who have decried the killing include the United Clubs Development Organisation, Santhel Youth Development Club, the Organisation for Development, and the All Santhel Development Committee.

They have also pledged unstinted support to any movement that may be launched by the JAC.
