Imphal, June 10 2009: Urging the State Government to take up action by understanding the demand of the democratic agitation of the people, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) demanded to release the student leaders booked under NSA in the aftermath of assasination of Prof Md Islamuddin.

Terming State Government's plan to book meira paibee leaders who are involved in setting aflame of effigies of Chief Minister under NSA is ridiculous, a press statement issued by its publicity and propaganda secretary KC Ibomcha asserted that such action terrifies the general public.

Maintaining that the present Government starts taking action against innocent students, meira paibees and civil society organisation activists, the statement further said that DESAM would not retreat because of such actions.

The students' body would continue the ongoing agitation until the arrested students are released, it added.

DESAM has been spearheading various forms of agiataion in this regard, the statement said and added that instead of listening to the demands of the students and the genarl public, the Government threatened to book the agitators under NSA, which according to the students' body is not sensible.
