Imphal, May 09 2009: The individual slain by security forces on May 7 night in Salungpham area of Thoubal district has been identified as one Khumukcham Bishorjit (41) s/o (L) Kh Yaima of Kakching Khunou Bokul Makhong.

Bishorjit was shot dead in an alleged encounter with a combined team of Thoubal district police commandos and troops of 34 Assam rifles.

Rejecting the security forces' encounter theory, family members contended that Bishorjit was a driver in a coalmine in Bangladesh who returned home in the last week of April.

They further recounted of Bishorjit's arrest a few days after his return from the coalmine on the charge of being a member of the proscribed PREPAK.

Bishorjit, who had been staying at home after release on bail, was supposed to appear before the court on May 14 but was reportedly apprehended by suspected police commandos from the Hiyanglam maternal home of his wife, the family members maintained.

The fact that Bishorjit had been slain came to light today at RIMS morgue from where the body was shifted to the Lilong Primary Health Centre and handed over to the family on completion of post mortem.
