Lamka, December 07: In what could be seen as a last minute thrust to polish the image of his four and a half year old government, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi accompanied by MPCC (I) President Gaikhangam, Cabinet Ministers T Phungzathang, TN Haokip and K Govindas were today engaged in inauguration sprees here.

The Chief Minister initially inaugurated the Rs 1.15 crore Phungkhothang H/S at Hiangtam Lamka and later commission the upgraded water treatment plant at Bungmual.

Inaugurating one of the most expensive government run high school building in the district Ibobi said another such project was in the offing for the district.

The dignitaries were greeted by the students as well as chief of Hiangtam Lamka, Thangkhosuanmung Guite, the grandson of Phungkhothang.

The elevated high school was presently situated near Lamka Public ground with a limited campus.

The water supply scheme commissioned today was one of the three zones envisaged for providing adequate drinking water to the township 3 years ago.

Of the three supply zones, the other two were still in a pitiable state.

Later in the afternoon, the Chief Minister also inaugurated New Lamka community hall constructed at the cost of Rs 80 lakhs in a record time of 11 months.

Giving a special pat to TD Minister under whose initiative and Dept, the hall was constructed, Ibobi said development funds from TD seems to be actually utilized in a proper manner.

T Phungzathang, TD Minister and the local MLA led his counterparts K Govindas, TN Haokip, N Songchinkhup and Dr Chaltonlien Amo in charming the people and promised to take up more such project if re-elected in the upcoming election.

The minister handed over the custody of the community hall to YPA leaders, apparently in a bid to put an end to his critics who claimed that he allegedly dismantled the existing YPA hall and turned it into a community hall.

Being the first of its kind the hall delighted the local populace.

Adding to this, all Val-Upa (elders) of YPA New Lamka were adorned with red blankets.

A crucial river bridge on the outskirt of the township was also inaugurated by T Phungzathang and attended a public meeting hosted by contractor Pauminlian.

Chief Minister and his cabinet entourage were accompanied by General Secretary of MPCC (I) and Commissioner TD, among others.
