Imphal, July 05 2009: Armed persons suspected to be NSCN (IM) cadres reportedly shot dead a civilian at Dungrei village of Hundung area in Ukhrul district yesterday afternoon.

According to a police source, suspected NSCN (IM) cadres opened fire at one AS Yarthotngam (34) s/o (L) Kathing of Hundung at a drinking joint in Dungrei village at around 1.40 pm yesterday.

Yarthotngam was reportedly rushed to JN Hospital, Porompat yesterday itself in serious condition but succumbed at around 7.15 am today.

Yarthotngam suffered a fatal bullet wound on the head.

The victim, whose body has been handed over to family members after the post mortem at RIMS morgue, is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons.

Ukhrul district police have registered a case on the shooting incident.
