Imphal, March 05 2009:: AMSU and DESAM have joined the JAC formed in protest against the killing of 12-year old Md Azad, a student of class VII in Phoubakchao High School in demanding a judicial inquiry into the incident.

A public meeting convened by the JAC at Phoubakchao High School ground today has also decided to launch a series of intense agitation in association with other social organisations if the Government fails to give a positive response within 6 am tomorrow to the demands of the JAC highlighted in a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister yesterday.

Yesterday's incident of killing the young student by a combined force of Thoubal Police Commandos and AR personnel has also been termed as an act of State-sponsored terrorism by the meeting.

Police claim that Azad was killed during a shot out with the combined force and one 9 mm pistol loaded with three live rounds of ammunition were recovered from the possession of the slain.

Meanwhile, AMSU and DESAM have joined the JAC in raising the demand for conducting a judicial inquiry into the killing so that necessary legal action could be taken up against the security personnel involved in the killing.

Addressing a press conference jointly at AMSU head office here today, education secretary of DESAM Arambam Thoithoi has also demanded that the armed outfit PULF to come out with a clarification in connection with Azad within three days from today since the police claim that he was a suspected PULF cadre.

Organisation secretary of AMSU W Janmenjor said that students should not be made their target both by the State and Non-State actors.

Asserting that slain Md Azad was just 12 year old, Janmenjor pointed that even if Azad was indeed a PULF cadre as suspected by the police, the combined force could have arrested him for trial in the juvenile court.

In view of the ongoing HSLC and Higher Secondary examination, the two student bodies have also appealed to all concerned to cut down the number of entertainment programme more particularly that of the Lai Haraoba and restrain from using loud speaker.
