Imphal, December 02 2009: Atleast two hand grenades which were retrieved from two different parts of Imphal and Ukhrul have been detonated safely.

According to police report, the first hand grenade was retrieved from the Thongju Pechu residential gate of Sanasam Lokendra, who is an AE in PHED at around 7.30 am today.

The residence is located near Thongju Pechu ground on the eastern side of National Highway 39.The Chinese made hand grenade was found with the lever attached.

Explosive experts of the police detonated the hand grenade safely at a place in Lamphel area at around 10.30 am.

In the second incident, another hand grenade was retrieved from Phungreitang colony in Ukhrul town at around 9 am today.

It was found lying along a footpath running in between two neighbouring houses.

The hand grenade was later detonated safely by the bomb experts.

Meanwhile, unidentified armed persons also reportedly left a hand grenade at the residence of one Sorokhaibam Chandramani (53) of Oinam Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district at around 6.05 pm today.

Chandramani is an owner of a shop in Paona Bazar.

Though the matter has been reported to the police, the bomb is yet to be picked up till the filing of this report.
