Imphal, February 27 2009: Three suspected UG cadres have been slain in two separate incidents of reported shoot-outs with security forces today. Two suspected cadres of KCP (MC) were shot dead by Imphal East commandos near Lamlong bridge at about 8.15 pm today.

One .32 pistol, one magazine with three live rounds and one Chinese hand grenade were recovered from the slain individuals, informed a police source.

One of the slain person might be a second lieutenant of KCP (MC), it added.

Acting on specific tip off about presence of armed persons near Lamlong bridge, Imphal East commandos laid an ambush in the area.

In the meantime, four persons were observed moving in a suspicious manner.

The encounter ensued when the police commandos asked the unidentified persons to stop.

While two persons were killed in the encounter, the other two managed to escape, conveyed the police source.

Earlier in the day, a suspected PULF cadre was slain in a reported encounter with a combined force of Imphal East commandos and troops of 28 AR at Keirao Litan Makhong Maning under Irilbung police station at about 6.15 pm today.

According to police sources, the encounter ensued when the combined force asked 3/4 youths who were moving in suspicious manner to halt.

The combined force was undertaking checking and frisking exercise at Keirao Litan Makhong area.

On being asked to halt, the unidentified youths opened fire towards the security team who retaliated swiftly killing one of the youths.

The other youths managed to flee away.

One 9 mm pistol, one magazine with three live rounds and four letterheads of PULF have been recovered from the slain youth, the sources added.

Police have picked up the corpse and deposited at RIMS mortuary.

Meanwhile, unidentified persons lobbed a hand grenade besides firing several rounds of gun shots at the Kyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai residence of Md Ziauddin (38).It is reported that Md Ziauddin is cashier in Ukhrul Revenue office.

However there is no report of any casualty.

The grenade which failed to explode was later retrieved by explosive experts of Manipur Police and set off safely at an isolated place.

Another hand grenade found at the office of Wangkhei Block Congress Committee located at Soibam Leikai near Ananda Higher Secondary School at about 8.15 am today was also safely retrieved by explosive experts of police.
