Police Commando injured

Imphal, November 23 2009: Atleast one Police Commando sustained injuries when suspected armed UGs attacked a team of police commandos on normal patrolling at Yaralpat under Porompat Police Station of Imphal East District today.

Police report said that the team of the Imphal East District Police Commandos in two Gypsys and one Rakshak was on normal patrolling, when the suspected armed UGs launched the attack with firing of automatic weapons including lethode from atop Yaralpat hillock.

In the attack, Irom Bimol (35) s/o Tomba of Langthabal who was travelling with his head stuck out above the roof of the Rakshak was hit by a lethode shell on his neck.

Fortunately, the lethode did not explode.

Bimol is a personnel of Ist MR attached with Imphal East Commandos.

The lethode shell had been reportedly removed from his neck by one his fellow personnel.

Bimol has been admitted to Shija Hospital.

After the incident, a reinforcement of police rushed in and conducted a massive search operation.

Two empty cartridges of lethode bombs have been reportedly recovered from the site of the incident.
