Imphal, June 23 2009: Following fresh report of attack by unidentified armed persons on migrant workers, relief camp for the non-local migrant workers has been reopened at Dharmashala here since yesterday evening.

Soon after the incident of shooting a milkman at Sangaiprou area yesterday afternoon, police picked up around 40 migrant workers from different parts and put them up in the relief camp for their safety.

64-year old Dinadal Thakur who is among others putting up in the relief camp informed that he was picked up by Patsoi Police from his hair cutting salon at Patsoi Bazar in Imphal West District.

His wife and one child is also along with Dinadal Thakur in the relief camp.

According to him, from the side of the Government they were provided Rs 60 each for two meals today morning.

Expressing his desire on the part of the Govt to take up necessary measures to stop killing of migrant workers, Dinadal Thakur observed that if a migrant worker has committed some mistake then he can be given warning or chastised but killing innocent person is condemnable.

Although the police have reportedly picked up around 40 migrant workers and put them up in the relief camp last night, only around 3 to 4 of them could be seen when this reporter visited today.

In this connection, Dinadal Thakur maintained that the other migrant workers may have gone to the surrounding areas in search of work.

Meanwhile, Pradhan of Kodompokpi Gram Panchayat Toijam Kanta has reportedly donated as sum of Rs 2000 for the migrant workers living in the relief camp.
