Imphal, December 14 2008: One non-local scrap collector from Nungpur under Murshidabad district of West Bengal but staying in a rented room at North AOC has been shot dead by unidentified persons today.

The scarp collector identified as Md Hassan SK (23) s/o Mujbur was shot dead by three unidentified persons who came on a Honda Activa at about 10.30 am on the road leading to Lamphel from Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai.

He was shot dead near a hole dug up for the Imphal Sewerage project.

He was hit by one bullet near nose (on the right side) and another on the chin.

It is reported that he died on the spot.

One membership card of the All Manipur Rickshaw Drivers' and Pullers' Welfare Association (no 4222) and a rickshaw bearing registration number 539 have been recovered from the spot by police.

Even though it is still unclear about the identity and motive of those persons involved in the killing, a case has been registered in Imphal police station and investigation initiated.
