Imphal, November 10 2008: In protest against the killing Heikrujam Ibo Singh on the night of November 3, a Wakat Meepham was staged at Uchiwa Leirak Achouba, in front of the office of All Women's Reformation Development Samaj, Nupi Lamjing Lup.

Organised under the aegis of JAC Uchiwa, the protestors demanded the Government to identify the killers, find out the motive behind the killing and pay of compensation to the family members of the deceased who was claimed to be an innocent farmer and sole bread earner of the family.

Talking to mediapersons on the sideline of the protest demonstration, secretary of JAC Uchiwa Rajmohan informed that Ibo Singh (42) had been called out from his house in the evening of November 3 by two unidentified persons on the pretext of having some conversation but the next day his body was found at Ekoupat, Uchiwa Wangma.

Ibo Singh was a simple and good-natured person who did not have any criminal record against him or connection with any underground organisation, Rajmohan said, adding that the matter could be verified from the record of the Uchiwa Police Station.

Reiterating the demands of the JAC already highlighted in a memorandum submitted to the Government in this regard, JAC has set November 14 as the deadline to fulfil the demands.

In case the Government fails to give a positive response within the set deadline, the JAC would be constrained to intensify its agitation and the Government should be held responsible for any untoward incident, Rajmohan warned.

Staging the protest under the banner of 'Iboshing Mihat Yaningde, Micham Hatpa Tokpiro', placards inscribed with slogans like 'Iboshing Mihatki Maram Uchiwa Miyamda Sengdokpiyu', 'We hate gun culture', 'We want peace', 'Miyam Hatpa Tokpiro', etc were seen being used at the protest site.

Among others, the protest demonstration was also participated by students of Uchiwa Higher Secondary School, Uchiwa Junior High School and Uchiwa LP School.
