Two hurt in grenade attack

Imphal, July 10 2009: Two individuals including a woman have been injured in a grenade attack launched by unidentified persons at the residence of the proprietor of Raj Polyclinc tonight.

According to police sources, unidentified persons lobbed a hand grenade at the Soibam Leikai Wangkhei Khunou residence of Raj Polyclinic proprietor Haobijam Rajen (45) at about 8.15 pm today.

The grenade exploded near a furniture machinery (electric motor) kept at the courtyard of Rajen's residence.

Rajen's aunt Khwairakpam Shanti (55) of Thangmeiband Lilasing Khongnangkhong and Lourembam Samananda of Nambol Leimapokpam who was making doors and windows at Rajen's house sustained injuries in the explosion. Shanti was hit by shrapnel below the right knee.

It is reported that Shanti is out of danger.

But Samananda sustained shrapnel injuries on the left knee, chest and face.

He has been admitted in Raj Polyclinic.

The grenade attack was launched barely 48 hours after a similar attack was launched at Raj Polyclinic located at North AOC in the night of July 8 .

In another incident, a hand grenade hurled by unidentified armed persons exploded near a residential house at Heingang Panthoi Lampak at around 9 pm today.

In the explosion, two houseslocated nearby and belonging to an AE and an EE of PWD suffered partial damage.

There is no report of any human casualty in the explosion.
