AR scalps one UG suspect

Imphal, April 07 2009: After a suspected leader of the proscribed KCP (MC) was gunned down yesterday, Assam Rifles troops shot dead another UG suspect during a reported shoot-out in Churachandpur district today.

According to a police source, the shoot-out took place at Kaprang village, about 7 kms away from Churachandpur along NH 150 at about 3.30 am today .

Quoting AR sources, it conveyed that the encounter ensued when troops of 3 AR, acting on specific information that UG cadres were present in the area after a leader of KCP (MC) was gunned down near Leishang village last morning, conducted a search operation.

It is reported that one 9 mm pistol, 12 live rounds and one hand grenade were recovered from the slain individual.

Police have picked up the corpse and deposited at RIMS mortuary.

Meanwhile, the alleged Churachandpur district commander of KCP (MC) killed in a reported encounter with a combined force of 7 AR and 3 AR near Leishang village last morning has been identified.

He was one Mairenbam Kiran alias Anand (35) s/o Iboyaima of Moirang Khunou.

He left home about a year back.

Admitting that Kiran was a cadre of KCP (MC), family members said that they have no idea about the rank of Kiran in the outfit.

Kiran was a cousin of Mairenbam Kishan (26) of Moirang Khunou Maning.

Kishan was killed in another reported encounter with a combined team of Bishnupur police commandos and troops of 7 AR at Salan Konjil, Watha road under Kumbi police station at about 2.35 am yesterday.

Grandfathers of slain Kiran and Kishan were brothers.

The corpse of Kiran has been claimed after post mortem at RIMS today.

Kishan's was already claimed yesterday.
