Imphal, July 01 2009: On the occasion of its 9th foundation day, president of Manipur Peace and Integrity Council (MAPI Council) Th Manihar has called upon to stop killing of innocent people and extorting money from the general public by both State and non-State actors in Manipur.

Speaking at the foundation day celebration held at Kangla Hall here today, Manihar pointed out that over 300 lives have been lost in Manipur in the hands of both State and non-State actors during the last 6 months.

The incident of firing attack and hurling of bombs at private residences in connection with monetary demand should also be stopped at once, he added.

Besides, Manihar, secretary of Rajya Sainik Board, Lamphel (Manipur State) H Sarat Singh, retired officer of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department Dr M Rajendro, DFO (Social Forestry Division) Sh Samu, social worker Ningthem and president of HERICOUN Renghang Chothe were also present at the occasion as presidium members.

In his address, Renghang Chothe observed that the incident of daily killing in Manipur is grave concerned today.

If this trend is not stopped at once Manipuri society is bound to suffer in future.

It is also high time for the general public to discuss and analyse this issue thoroughly.

Sh Samu pointed out if this killing spree continues then there would be no point of protecting the territorial integrity of the State.

When the 60 elected MLAs and two MPs have failed to speak out against continued imposition of Armed Forces Special Powers Act in Manipur at the Centre, the pressure given by Angatha Sangma to the Prime Minister for lifting the Act recently was appreciable, Samu added.

Twenty-three women leaders working on various issues were also honoured at the foundation day celebration.
