MUTSU demands VC's resignation

Imphal, May 31 2009: Citing various incompetences in construction works, recruitment processes, installation of equipment and the present imbroglio arising out of the killing Prof Islamuddin, Manipur University Tribal Students' Union (MUTSU) demanded resignation of Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, C Amuba on moral grounds.

The union alleged that quality has not been maintained in the construction works of Thangjing Hostel, Koubru Hostel, Anthropology Department and basket ball court.

It further said that Deputy Registrar's post, reserved for STs has not been filled yet even after eight months that the VC had promised to conduct interview for the post.

The interview for the two posts of Assistant Finance Officers, reserved for STs too has not been conducted yet.

The students' body also said that the raids conducted by police in the in the hostels of the varsity in the aftermath of the killing of Prof Islammudin brought unrest to students.

MUTSU also alleged that the VC and Registrar failed to provide security for Prof Islamuddin while they arranged security for Dr Shamjai, MU Finance Officer.

It also said that postponement of 2nd and 4th semester exams will create problems for those students who wish to migrate to other Universities for MPhil/PhD courses.

MUTSU also urged all student organisations, social organisations, NGOs and meira paibis to bring normalcy in the MU campus.
