Court nod to further remand of Nando

Imphal, June 28 2009: A court here has granted further remand of under trial prisoner Thokchom Nando of KCP and his associate Md Mujibur Rahaman who have been arrested in connection with the case of abduction for ransom and subsequent killing of contractor Yengkhom Krishnadas, to further police custody.

A resident of Khangabok Part-II Lamlong Bazar in Thoubal district, Nando has been in police custody after being rearrested by the police on June 17 from Sajiwa Jail where he had been serving the term in connection with another similar case involving Baby Lungnila Elizabeth, the daughter of former Education Minister Francis Ngajokpa.

She had been abducted on ransom demand from near her Little Flower School on November 2, 2004 and her decomposed body was found tucked in a gunny bag at Tera Sadokpam on November 12 .

Today Nando was again produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal who gave the permission of remanding him to police custody further till July 1 .

The same court has also remanded his associate Md Majibur Rahaman (23) s/o Kayamuddin of Lilong Turel Ahanbi to police custody for 10 days.

Rahaman was handed over to Imphal West District Police after being arrested by Thoubal District Police Commandos yesterday morning in connection with the case of killing Krishnadas.

Originally hailing from Kakching Sumak Leikai, Krishnadas was abducted from his wife's place at Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungba Leikai on the night of June 15 but despite having paid Rs 25 lakhs towards securing his safe release his body was found in the morning of the following day at Lilong Chingjao.

On Seram Ashalata Devi of Tera Sayang Lambi who allegedly collected the ransom amount is currently in judicial custody.

In connection with the same case, one Laikhuram Priyobarta alias Lakpa alias Nanao (25) of Kongpal Khaidem Leikai is also in police custody currently.

Shot dead: Imphal West Police Commandos shot dead a UG suspect during an encounter which took place at Iroisemba at around 6.50 pm today.

According to police report, one 9 mm Mauser pistol and some live rounds of ammunition have recovered from the possession of the slain UG suspect.

Clad in T-shirt of red, blue and white horizontal stripes and grey trousers, the body of the slain UG suspect whose identity is to be confirmed has been picked up by the Lamphel police and deposited the same at the mortuary of RIMS's morgue.

Meanwhile, troops of 8 Sikh Regiment have reportedly arrested four cadres of Dima Halam Daogah (Dilip Nunisa) faction from Mahur town of North Cachar Hills district at around 5 am today.

Among the arrested, only one has been identified as Rani Dimasa, according to our Jiribam correspondent.

One 9 mm pistol and some explosive devises have been recovered from their possession.
