Imphal, October 22 2008: Clearly caught on the wrong foot when the terror attack was launched at Ragailong yesterday evening in which 16 people have been killed so far and many others wounded, Chief Minister O Ibobi today convened a security meeting to chalk out strategies so that such terror strikes do not recur.

The meeting assumes significance not only against the backdrop of the terror strike yesterday but also in the face of the upcoming Diwali and Ningol Chakkouba festivals.

Besides the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary Rakesh, Principal Secretary, Home, DS Poonia, DGP Y Joykumar and SP of Crime Branch Achin Haokip were present at the meeting.

Expressing deep concern over the attack in a highly fortified area like Ragailong, the Chief Minister instructed the police top brass to take up all necessary measures so that such attacks do not recur.

While issuing the instruction, the Chief Minister stressed on the need to ensure that Diwali and Ningol Chakkouba festivals pass off peacefully, said a source.

When contacted, SSP of Imphal West, L Kailun said that apart from intensifying security vigil at all strategic locations in Imphal, the police has also started conducting a massive drive to check any abandoned vehicles. The powerful blast that ripped through near Ragailong is suspected to have been fitted on a Luna moped.

No arrest in connection with the terror attack has been made so far, said the SSP and added that hectic investigation is on to nail the culprits.

The senior police officer also appealed to the citizens to be on the alert and to notify the police if they come across any suspicious objects in the market places or crowded areas.

"Following last evening terror attack and in view of the upcoming Diwali and Ningol Chakkouba festivals we have taken up many measures to nullify any agenda of armed outfits," added the SSP.

A police officer, when contacted, said that the blast that occurred yesterday be gelatine and added that the attackers may have used a timer to set off the bomb.
