Armed intruders set Nipamacha�s house afire, shoot at Chaoba�s

Imphal, January 18: In continuing attacks on the state political leaders and former ministers, unidentified armed persons suspected to be members of an underground group this evening set ablaze the living room of the former chief minister Wahengbam Nipamacha at Wangoi after holding up the entire family at gunpoint.

Reliable sources said some unidentified armed persons suspected to the UGs barged into the residence of the former chief minister W Nipamacha Singh this evening around 4.30 pm.

All the members of the family were forced inside a single room of the house at gunpoint after which the unidentified persons set ablaze the living room.

The timely arrival of the fire brigade saved the house from further damage, but property worth about Rs 30 thousand was reportedly destroyed in the arson.

In yet another incident, some unidentified gunmen suspected to be UGs attacked the residence of Lok Sabha MP Thounaojam Chaoba Singh at Utlou this evening around 6 pm by firing several rounds at the house.

The UGs also reportedly hurled one hand grenade inside the compound of Chaoba�s residence but the grenade failed to explode.

There were no casualties in the incident.

The suspected UGs reportedly escaped from the spot on a motorcycle.

It may be recalled in the past few days, suspected UGs attacked former chief minister, Radhabinod Koijam�s residence and also locked up the Congress (I) office.
